European lawmaker Sarah Knafo urged the EU to reject the European Central Bank’s (ECB) digital euro project, calling it a “totalitarian temptation,” and proposed the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve.
In a speech before the European Parliament, Knafo highlighted El Salvador’s Bitcoin adoption and the U.S.’s shifting stance under President-elect Donald Trump. She also noted Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s recent comparison of Bitcoin to digital gold.
Knafo criticized Europe’s focus on regulation, taxation, and stifling innovation, calling for a new paradigm to protect citizens from inflation and poor economic policies through decentralized Bitcoin adoption.
