James Howells’ lost $716 million Bitcoin fortune, discarded in a Welsh landfill in 2013, has taken a new twist. His ex-partner, Halfina Eddy-Evans, claims she threw away the hard drive containing 8,000 BTC at Howells’ request.
Eddy-Evans, speaking to the Daily Mail, said Howells asked her to dispose of unwanted items, which included the drive. At the time, Bitcoin was worth less than $1 per token, and its significance was overlooked.
Howells’ later discovery of the drive’s contents sparked a long-standing legal battle and highlighted the importance of secure digital asset management. Today, the lost Bitcoin is valued at over $716 million.
