El Salvador Increases Bitcoin Reserves to 6,068 BTC Amid Market Dip

El Salvador has expanded its Bitcoin holdings again, purchasing 12 BTC on Feb. 4. The government bought 11 BTC for over $1.1 million at an average price of $101,816, later adding 1 BTC for $99,114. This brings the country’s total Bitcoin reserves to 6,068 BTC, valued at over $554 million.

The Bitcoin Office highlighted that El Salvador has accumulated 21 BTC this week and 60 BTC in the last 30 days, reaffirming its strategy of growing the world’s first strategic Bitcoin reserve.

The purchases come after Bitcoin briefly dropped to $96,000 before rebounding to around $98,000. This move also follows President Nayib Bukele’s $1.4 billion IMF deal, which led to changes in El Salvador’s Bitcoin policies, including making private sector BTC acceptance voluntary and reducing government involvement in the Chivo wallet.

Despite these adjustments, El Salvador continues to buy Bitcoin, with officials confirming that purchases will intensify in 2025, signaling the country’s long-term commitment to BTC.
