Swiss Proposal to Mandate Bitcoin Reserves Underway

A proposal requiring the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to hold Bitcoin as part of its reserves is now in motion, officially registered in Switzerland’s Federal Gazette on Dec. 31. Spearheaded by Giw Zanganeh, Yves Bennaïm, and the nonprofit think tank 2B4CH, the initiative seeks to amend the Swiss Federal Constitution to include Bitcoin alongside gold as part of SNB’s monetary reserves.

To trigger a referendum, the proposal needs 100,000 signatures—1.12% of Switzerland’s 8.92 million residents—by June 30, 2026.

Yves Bennaïm stated, “We were waiting for the right timing. Now, everything is falling into place.”

If successful, this move could position Switzerland as a leader in sovereign Bitcoin adoption.
